GREENVILLE — A knock-your-socks off dual display inspired by the themes of preserving natural history and a tribute to Maine servicemen who have given their lives since9-11 – Loons: Voice of the Wilderness and Memorializing Maine's Servicemen — will be located in Greenville Junction on the lawn of the Moosehead Historical Society's Eveleth-Crafts-Sheridan House on Pritham Ave. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 4. Octogenarian Barbara Hambach, 87, of Broad Brook, Conn. Has brought her passion to encourage patriotism to Greenville for more than 30 years. She wouldn't miss the Greenville Fourth of July parade and loves creating her “stationary float”. A genuine mounted common loon, on loan from the Maine Audubon Society, will be on view in the first part of the display. Giant four foot by six-foot photographs of common loons will form the centerpiece. See nests, chicks and dives. Learn what “the penguin dance” means to the loons and to you. Pick up free brochures with the Loon Calendar” that describes their life cycle. Learn how to reduce conflicts between people and loons and yet still be able to enjoy them. Find out interesting loon facts and statistics and browse answers to the most frequently asked questions about loons. The second arm of the exhibit is a tribute to the servicemen from Maine who have given their lives since September 11, 2001. It contains a photograph and some biographical information of every person. An individual flag representing each life will be waving. Take a few minutes to reflect on the contributions that these Maine servicemen and all servicemen have made to us and to our country. The slogan for this year's event is “Together Everyone Achieves More,” a good motto for family, towns, states and countries. In addition to the free Maine Audubon brochure, “Living in Loon Territory,” there will be other free loon fat sheets. Upon request, booklets containing the entire text of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and fascinating facts about the Supreme Court will be available. As usual Barbara Hambach will be handing out her “freedom beads.” Note to loon lovers — Moosehead needs more loon counters. Those interested in participating in the annual loon count can get more information at this exhibit. There will also be lemonade and cookies, provided by the Moosehead Historical Society, on the Eveleth-Crafts-Sheridan House porch.
